Residency - GÖTEBORG

We are proud to launch the very first residency programme focused on photography existing in Gothenburg, Sweden.

This is an open call to invite an ITALY-BASED artist working with photography for a fully funded 3-week residency in Gothenburg, in May 2024.

WHO CAN APPLY

Italy-based artists (regardless of nationality) working with photography. This includes also multidisciplinary artists who involve photography as part of their practice. To get the most out of the residency, the artist must be comfortable communicating in English.

WHAT THE ARTIST RECEIVES
  • Artist fee of 5.000 SEK (about 400 €)
  • Travel compensation up to 3.000 SEK (about 250 €)
  • Production fee up to 3.000 SEK
  • Free studio space and accommodation 
  • Free access to Göteborgs Bildverkstad, collective workshop for image production
  • Mentorship sessions with artist and educator Anna Strand
  • Curatorial support by Stefano Conti 
  • Possibility of carrying out a final exhibition, gallery visits, artist talks, etc.
  • A lot of nature and meatballs 🙂

THE STUDIO

The studio is provided by Bagih, a creative arena with studio spaces located in Kronhuset, historical building in the heart of Gothenburg. The studio is a simple private room equipped with a table, a chair, and wall space to pin sketches and notes. Kronhuset is also a co-working space with an open communal area where you will find a kitchen, sofas, extra tables, and a laser printer.

THE ACCOMMODATION

Private one-room apartment.

SELECTION PROCESS

The application period ended on January 25, 2024. Candidates were asked to submit a project proposal, a motivation, a bio, an artist statement, a portfolio, and a CV.

In February, three artists will be invited for an interview with us. After that, only one will be granted the residency and will receive a binding contract to sign. By the end of February, all the applicants will receive notification of their application results.

Kronhuset
Located in the heart of Gothenburg, Kronhuset is a historic building with a rich past. Constructed in the mid-17th century, it is one of the city’s oldest buildings and stands as a symbol of Gothenburg’s cultural heritage and architectural significance. It was first used as a military storehouse and here the four-year-old Karl XI was proclaimed king in 1660. Nowadays it is home to Bagih.
