September 18–21, 2025
As a continuation of the exchange between the two art academies started in July (see part 1), in September the Italians came to Gothenburg for an event at HDK-Valand and a tour of local exhibitions.
On September 19, an evening dedicated to Italian cameraless photography took place at Glas Huset. It was a pop-up exhibition presenting prints created during the July workshop led by artist Fabio Sandri at ABA Catanzaro, with students from both schools. Sandri also gave a talk about his artistic practice. Italian curator and critic Luca Panaro introduced different artists who had used cameraless practices throughout Italian photo history, offering the Swedish audience a rare opportunity to discover figures who are not easily accessible outside Italy. The talk was held in Italian and interpreted into English by Stefano Conti. The exchange had been initiated by ABA Catanzaro thanks to European funding, and SWIT acted as a bridge to make the collaboration possible.
The days following the event, SWIT has taken the Italians to visit local exhibitions during the opening of GIBCA 2025, connecting them with local artists and gallery spaces.
This was a joint event by HDK-Valand, ABA Catanzaro, SWIT Platform, Svenska Fotografers Förbund, Centrum för Fotografi, Fotoförfattarna, Göteborgs Bildverkstad, Hasselbladcenters vänner.
